Pricing & Service Calls
Do you offer free diagnostic visits?
+
No. A proper diagnosis takes time, training and tools. Our service/diagnostic visit starts at $75. Technician and travel time may be additional depending on distance.
What does a service call cost?
+
Service / diagnostic visits start at $75. The final price depends on travel, time required and the complexity of the diagnosis.
Do you charge travel time?
+
Travel time may be billed depending on distance and the time required. We disclose expected visit terms before we dispatch.
What does HVAC labor cost?
+
Standard labor generally starts at $75 per hour. After-hours, weekend, holiday, specialty, emergency and extended-travel labor may be higher.
Will I know the price before repair work begins?
+
Yes. You approve the diagnostic visit beforehand, and after we diagnose the system you receive repair pricing and options before any significant parts or additional labor proceed.
Can I decline the repair after diagnosis?
+
Yes. If you choose not to repair the system, you may use our diagnostic findings elsewhere after paying the agreed diagnostic, travel and labor charges.
AC Problems
Why is my AC running but not cooling?
+
Common causes include a dirty condenser coil, airflow restriction, a failing capacitor, metering-device issues, incorrect refrigerant charge or compressor problems. We diagnose the full system before deciding what's actually failing.
Why is my AC freezing up?
+
Typically airflow problems (dirty filter, blocked return, blower issues, dirty evaporator) or low refrigerant due to a leak. We evaluate airflow first because adding refrigerant to a system with poor airflow does not solve the real problem.
Why won't my outside unit start?
+
The most common causes are a failed capacitor, a tripped breaker, a failed contactor, a thermostat/control issue or a wiring problem. We measure before replacing parts.
Why does an AC capacitor fail?
+
Age, heat, voltage conditions and manufacturing variability all contribute. A failed capacitor can prevent the compressor or fan motor from starting. Replacement is typically $300 – $500 installed.
Does low refrigerant always mean I should just add refrigerant?
+
No. If a system is low on refrigerant, there is almost always a reason — usually a leak. We don't blindly add refrigerant. If the system is significantly low, we may recommend leak diagnosis first so you do not keep paying for refrigerant that escapes.
How do you determine the correct refrigerant charge?
+
We first establish proper airflow and operating conditions, then evaluate charge using the equipment's metering device and the appropriate measurements. Charging only to a pressure number without this context can damage the system.
Cleaning & Maintenance
What is included in the AC cleaning check?
+
Our $250 AC Precision Tune-Up & Cleaning Check includes outdoor condenser inspection, removal of impacted debris, deeper coil cleaning as appropriate (guards/top removed when needed), filter/airflow check, indoor system inspection, visual A-coil inspection where accessible, metering-device verification, relevant system measurements and refrigerant-charge evaluation after airflow and system conditions are established. Refrigerant is not included and is billed separately when required.
What is included in the furnace cleaning check?
+
Our $250 Furnace Precision Tune-Up & Cleaning Check generally includes flame-sensor removal/cleaning/reinstall, burner cleaning where applicable, ignition/glow-igniter check, basic flame evaluation, gas-pressure verification when conditions warrant, sequence-of-operation verification, airflow/filter review and general operation inspection. Blower-wheel deep cleaning is an additional service starting around $150.
Is spraying an outdoor coil with a garden hose enough?
+
Usually no. A rinse removes surface debris, but impacted dust, cottonwood and grime inside the fins require proper access, the right cleaning method and sometimes removing the guards or top. A cosmetic rinse often leaves the real restriction in place.
Why does airflow matter?
+
Airflow controls how your system transfers heat. If airflow is wrong, refrigerant readings are wrong, cooling is poor, components run hot and parts wear out faster. We evaluate airflow before judging refrigerant charge.
How often should HVAC equipment be maintained?
+
A seasonal check is a reasonable baseline — AC in spring, furnace in fall. Our AC + Furnace Same-Visit Bundle is $400 and covers both in one visit.
Repair vs. Replacement
Can an older air conditioner still be repaired?
+
Often, yes. Older equipment is not automatically unrepairable. We're willing to evaluate older systems and tell you honestly whether repair is reasonable.
Should I repair or replace my HVAC system?
+
Replacement may become reasonable when the compressor or another major component is expensive to replace, repeated major failures are occurring, multiple expensive problems exist, equipment condition makes continued repair poor value, an unsafe heat exchanger is confirmed, or repair cost becomes disproportionate to the remaining value and expected life of the system.
Can Lee's give me a second opinion?
+
Yes. Second opinions are welcome. If repair is reasonable, we'll tell you. If replacement genuinely makes more financial or safety sense, we'll explain why.
What happens if another company says I need a new system?
+
Call us for a second opinion. We diagnose the system ourselves and share measurements, findings and options — not just a conclusion.
Emergency Service
Do you offer emergency HVAC service?
+
After-hours emergency response is available subject to technician availability. Submit the service request on this page, mark it as an emergency, then call or text 219-455-1453 so we know the request is waiting.
Can you come out today?
+
Same-day visits are possible depending on technician availability. For emergencies, call 219-455-1453 after submitting the form so we can confirm scheduling.
What should I do if I smell gas?
+
Leave the area immediately and contact 911, the fire department or your gas utility before scheduling any HVAC work. Safety first — the HVAC appointment comes after the area is confirmed safe.
What should I do if a carbon-monoxide alarm activates?
+
Leave the home, get everyone to fresh air and call 911 or the fire department. Do not wait for an HVAC appointment to address a possible CO event.
Payments & Documentation
What payment methods do you accept?
+
Cash, major credit and debit cards processed through Square, and electronic payment options such as Venmo and PayPal where supported. Card or electronic payment processing fees may apply where permitted and will be disclosed before payment.
Do I receive a receipt?
+
Yes. You receive an itemized Square invoice/receipt after service.
Do you provide photos or readings from the service call?
+
Yes. We can share before/after photos, diagnostic readings, system measurements and — where available from Fieldpiece equipment — PDF diagnostic data.
Do I have to approve parts before you order them?
+
Yes. We obtain customer approval before purchasing expensive or special-order parts. Deposits may be required for special-order items. Customer-supplied components may be declined.
